Flex Connectors’ flex7 lighting connection and control system has been installed at the prestigious new BBC drama village in Cardiff Bay.

The site is 170,000 sq ft (15,800 sq m), and will eventually be home to productions including Casualty, Pobol y Cwm, and Doctor Who.

Whitehead Building Services Ltd of Cardiff chose the flex7 System because of the simplicity & versatility of the product range. The ‘plug and play’ nature of the system, combined with products, packaged on a room-by-room basis ensured minimal installation time on site.

Lighting consultant Arup had not dealt with flex7 products in the past, but was happy with the use of the system. Earlier this year the BBC, in partnership with Arup, created a guide, co-funded by the Carbon Trust, on low energy lighting for television. It is part of the BBC campaign ‘The Difference’ – the aim of which is to reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2013. flex7 energy saving lighting controls were therefore an appropriate choice.

The range of differing requirements throughout the site called for the system to include occupancy & absence control, manual dimming & auto daylight dimming controls – all standard products from the flex7 range.

We’ve added the official ‘Made in Britain’ logo to our website to show our support for Stoves’ campaign for a standard marque to be applied to all products manufactured in the UK. The logo was introduced in an effort to give consumers a clearer idea of where their products originate from.

Our products are manufactured in Birmingham, and then assembled in our factory in sunny Brentford. This means that you, our lovely customers don’t have to wait for products to be shipped over from abroad, because they’re all sitting on the shelves waiting for you. Of course if you do fancy something a little different (a bespoke lighting control or a specially wired eZeBox for example) then the longest you’ll have to wait is a few days for them to trundle down the M1 and then a couple more while we lovingly program and put them together for you.

So, there you have it – Flex Connectors, Made in Britain! Yet another reason to choose the flex7 system (I’m losing count now!)

Flex Connectors have launched the new flex7 eZeBox Unit. It features 7-poles as standard, is 16A rated and is available in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 ways. The box is supplied with a range of different installation options, allowing easy fixing to; solid surfaces, cable tray, trunking, drop rods, or conduit boxes. The eZeBox replaces the existing fcb range, and is compatible with all other flex7 products. The new system is fully modular – an extra socket on the end of the unit gives the user the option to add or remove extra outlets as and when required.

By incorporating a spare outlet at the end of each eZeBox Unit, more outlets can be created at any stage simply by plugging in additional units. For example: plug in an Expansion Unit – to simply increase the capacity of the original unit, or plug in a Tap-off Unit and control the new unit separately from the original. In either case units plug in direct ‘unit to unit’ or via a suitable interconnecting lead.

The eZeBox comes with an easy to remove cover, a large wiring compartment and large capacity input terminals. Furthermore, the box has a 7-in-a-line terminal layout common to all other flex7 products – offering the installer a consistent and familiar wiring up experience whether they are terminating to an eZeBox, a plug, single socket outlet, or hub unit.

Combine the enormous flexibility of the new eZeBox range with the flex7 range of plug-in lighting control devices, and virtually any lighting connection and control requirement can be simply and quickly realised, with just a handful of off the shelf products.

Flex Connectors energy saving lighting control and connection products have been used in an ambitious new youth venue in Norwich. The project is part of ‘myplace’; a 10 year Government scheme aiming to provide improved facilities for young people.

Flex Connectors energy saving lighting control and connection products have been used in an ambitious new youth venue in Norwich. The project is part of ‘myplace’; a 10 year Government scheme which aims to provide improved facilities for young people. OPEN is the first of these venues to be completed in the UK.

The project, situated in Norwich city centre, aims to provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment for young people. Local youths aged between 12 and 25 were consulted during the planning stages to ensure that the new venue catered specifically to their needs and interests. The venue has already hosted a variety of activities including photography, film and dance workshops.

The installation contractor Eyre Electrical of Norwich, required a system capable of handling the complexities of the lighting brief in the most logical and cost effective way. As a result Flex Connectors occupancy sensors, plugs, leads, sockets and special, project configured connection boxes were chosen to use throughout the £12m building.

OPEN has been transformed from a 19th century bank into a state of the art space. Many of the original features still remain, resulting in a spectacular mix of old and new. It now boasts a 1,450 capacity Live music venue, under 18s nightclub, café, climbing wall, dance studio and a media lab kitted out with 24 PCs. Plans for the future include a recording studio and a health suite.
